Take care of the “sixes” even before the age of six

Take care of the “sixes” even before the age of six
There is a problem: children 6-7 years old, whose first permanent molars (six teeth, "sixes") have already been damaged by caries, often come to see our magician, children's dentist Olena Horova.

How could this happen? And here’s how.

– Parents often do not know that these teeth have already erupted or do not suspect that they are permanent, – says Olena Viktorivna. — Therefore, they are not paid enough attention in terms of hygiene, and it is even more difficult for children to clean remote areas of the oral cavity. At the same time, tooth tissues need time to mature. It takes at least 2-3 years for the enamel to become hard and begin to fully perform its protective functions. Before that, she is very vulnerable to carious aggression. Accordingly, the teeth have no protection until their hard tissue matures. And if a large amount of plaque accumulates on the tooth, on which bacteria begin to feed, caries develops very quickly.

At the reception, Olena Viktorivna usually pays a lot of attention to teaching parents about proper oral hygiene, as she is sure that the problem is much easier to prevent. Parents understand it and begin to take care of the correct cleaning of children’s teeth. Especially when the child has already had to treat sixes. Then every tooth that erupts or changes is observed to the maximum.

In connection with all this, our advice is as follows:

  • accustom children to daily brushing;
  • clean hard-to-reach areas after them;
  • pay equal attention to all teeth, including those that have just erupted;
  • bring children for preventive examinations to the dentist every three months, even if you think that nothing is bothering the child;
  • if you are not sure that you are brushing your teeth correctly, do not hesitate to ask your doctor about the rules of correct oral hygiene, our Olena Viktorivna will be very happy to introduce you to the course of the matter.
