When I almost died of sinusitis…

When I almost died of sinusitis…
Recently, a patient came to us with complaints of a headache that worsened when he changed his body position. To establish an accurate diagnosis, we used cone-beam tomography of the upper jaw and paranasal sinuses. When diagnosing sinusitis, it is cone-beam tomography that is the most important and necessary study.

According to the results of the examination, the patient was diagnosed with “Odontogenic sinusitis caused by an untreated tooth”.

Treatment of odontogenic sinusitis is the competence of surgical dentistry or maxillofacial surgery. At the Sirius Dent Medical Center, this treatment is performed by the head doctor, dental surgeon, implant surgeon, maxillofacial surgeon Denys Vyacheslavovich Valkevich (more than 20 years of experience).

During the treatment, Denys Valkevich removed the causative tooth and formed a joint between the maxillary sinus and the nasal cavity. Also, just in case, tissue fragments were taken for histological examination, which did not show neoplasms.

By the way, not so long ago we were asked a question on the topic: “Can odontogenic sinusitis be cured without a puncture?”

So… Puncture of the maxillary sinus in case of odontogenic sinusitis leads to a temporary relief of symptoms due to a decrease in pressure in its cavity and is not a treatment method. To cure dental sinusitis, you need to eliminate the cause of its development.
