Prosthetics on implants in the complete absence of teeth is the best alternative to installing removable jaw prostheses, which cannot fully perform the chewing function and cause a lot of inconvenience. But dental implantation, especially in gerontological dentistry (in elderly patients), is often quite a complicated process.
A patient with removable dentures on both jaws came to our Sirius Dent Medical Center. His main complaint was food restrictions. The patient could not eat his favorite foods because small bones and solid particles got under the prosthesis and injured the mucous membrane of the gums, causing pain.
As a solution to this problem, we offered him prosthetics on implants according to the all-on-4 system, when 4 dental implants are inserted into the jawbone, on which a non-removable prosthesis for the jaw is subsequently attached. Due to the fact that dentures are securely fixed, they are not displaced in the oral cavity and do not injure the gums, allowing them to fully chew food.
The patient doubted that this was even possible because he had already consulted an implant surgeon in another dent medical center being told that there was not enough jawbone volume for implant placement. However, we found a solution and the patient trusted us.
Based on a CT scan of the patient’s jaws, we conducted a 3D computer simulation of the process of dental implantation and prosthetics. Due to the insufficient amount of bone tissue of the jaw, the implants were installed at a specific angle, which made it possible to avoid bone plastic surgery.
After the engraftment of dental implants, we started the second stage of treatment – installation of jaw prostheses. For this purpose, we used existing removable dentures, to which the patient has been already accustomed. In order to firmly fix them, individually designed and custom milled abutments (the adapters that are surgically screwed into the jaw bone implants and serve as a support for installing prostheses) were used.
All stages of treatment were successful. After some time, the dent medical center administrator contacted the patient to ask if everything was okay. He was very touched and even forgot that he had problems with his teeth before. Now he can eat his favorite foods without feeling any discomfort. The patient periodically comes to our dent medical center to pass all the planned examinations and replace the sealants in prostheses.
