Surgical Treatment of Odontogenic Sinusitis

The patient came to us with the complaint of a headache that worsened when changing the body position. In the course of further examinations, he was diagnosed with «odontogenic sinusitis» – sinusitis caused by pathogenic dental microflora (for example, in the case of deep caries). It is worth noting that a thorough diagnosis should be conducted by a specialist to avoid a mistake. The gold standard in the diagnosis of odontogenic sinusitis is a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the upper jaw and paranasal sinuses.

In this particular case, the diagnosis was accurate. During the operation, the patient’s causal tooth was removed, the maxillary sinus was monitored, and a connection between the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity was formed. Tissue fragments were also taken for histological examination. At the moment, our patient lives a full life without pain.

Surgical treatment of severe injuries, inflammatory diseases and tumors of the head and neck is our trump card, and we are incredibly proud of the maxillofacial surgery department at the Sirius Dent Medical Center.
